WHAT TO CONSIDER WHEN PURCHASING A MONUMENT 

1.      CHOOSE THE SHAPE OF YOUR STONE
                                (CONSIDER LOCATION ON CEMETERY)
         a.      Flat - grass markers,  consider them not being visible when covered in snow also grass and dirt can collect in the etchings and increase the rate of decay 
         b.      Slant - slope or pillow, a flat marker slightly sloped and raised off the ground, available w or w/o base
         c.       Hickey - an upright monument with a slight slope
         d.      Serp - the most typical monument you will find in the cemetery.  An upright monument with a gentle curve on the top
         e.      Profile - any monument with a different shape to it's top.  Examples are double hearts, Angels
         f.        Cross - cross shape markers
         g.   Military - Military markers, Grey in colour typically 15-16" wide by 35" high 
         h.   Open Book - Bible,  another flat marker in the shape of an open book.  
 

      2.      CHOOSE HOW MANY SIDES ARE POLISHED
           a.   P1 – Face only
           b.   P2 – Face and back
           c.   P3 – Face back and top
           d.   P4 – Face, top and sides 
           e.   P5 – Face, back, top and sides
           f.    P6 – All sides polished

      3.     CHOOSE THE COLOUR OF YOUR STONE
           a.   China Black
           b.   Bahama Blue
           c.   Brits Blue
           d.   India Red
           e.   Mahogany
           f.   Pearl Blue
           g.  Mountain Rose
           h.  China Grey
           i.   Tan Brown
           j.  other specialty colours are available greens, blues, reds, browns

 
4.      CHOOSE THE LETTERING AND LAYOUT OF YOUR STONE

1. Location of name, scenes, dates, and epitaph
2. Anything on the back i.e., family name, children's names or scenes

 
5.      CHOOSE THE SCENES, COLORS, EMBLEMS, RELIGIOUS MARKERS, SLOGANS, PORTRAITS, ETCHINGS, CARVINGS

1. Shape carved – carving with depth and 3-D perception
2. Flash carved – flat carving
3. Hand etched – created by using a sharp tipped stylus to remove polish leaving shades of natural color graniteFlat colours – sprayed flat
4. Flat colour – air brushed paint
5. Depth colours – hand painted on shape carves only

        6.      CHOOSE YOUR BASE

1. Standard – gray, top sawn, sides rough
2. Standard w/margin – gray w/top polished 2” sawn margin
3. Coloured with polish – remaining sides rough rock
4. Standard with 2” polished top remaining sides rock
5. Standard with 2”  margin Ukrainian Stitch on black polished top
